Paper Rickrack

This works really well with fine-print newspaper (try the classifieds, or the stock market reports)... Cut lengthwise strips 1" wide (lay a few sheets together; you’ll glue the strips together to make the length of garland you want - this can be done as you go). Then fold the strip in half down the middle to make a sturdier1/2" length. Lay the strip on a table in front of you so that it’s shooting away from you - and keep your finger on the near end...

Starting about an inch up from the end near you, fold the strip over itself to the right at a 45 degree angle (i.e., so that it now shoots off to your right). Next, fold it under (making a point facing away from you) at another 45 degree angle - now the strip is coming down towards you. Fold this over to the right - then fold it under so that the strip heads away from you again (making a point facing down toward you). ...And keep on keeping on! - and you have a fun rickrack garland, with staggered points above and below a center line.
