If you’re looking for a truly simple but useful gift
for a gardener friend, consider plant tags (row markers) - a
person can hardly have too many of them. And these garden
crafts are fun to make and give...
The easiest ones to make (well, they aren’t really even
made - but can I call these garden crafts for kids to
make anyway?) are from plastic picnic knives (or flat wooden
spoons?) - just give someone a packet of them, along with an
indelible marker. (Use one as the gift tag.) Simple
instructions: "stick them in the ground
handle-first".
You can also cut tags (in veggie shapes?) from the sides
of plastic milk jugs. Or from thin wood - painted or un. Or
get fancy and snip metal tags (as long as you go to the
trouble to fold and crimp the edges so that they don’t cut
anyone who handles them).
And who's to say that the markers must stick up out of
the soil? Especially for potted herbs, simple rounded
stones - stamped with the name of the plant - can just be
laid on the soil.
