Ha, I’ll bet you haven’t wondered how to make
flowers out of orange rinds - but they’re lovely, in their
                    own, unique way…
Cut an orange (between the stem and the flower ends) in
                    slightly unequal cup-shaped "halves". Carefully
scrape out the white insides of the orange, then cut each
cup 4 times so that 5 "petals" are formed, being
careful to leave a circle of at least1/2" intact in the
center. Round off the corners of each petal with a knife or
kitchen shears. The petals will probably curve appropriately
on their own - if not, gently urge them into a nice-looking
shape with your fingers. Set each flower cup to air dry (not
in the oven!). You can paint the insides with yellow food
coloring, if you like. You’ll place the smaller cup into
the larger one... voilà, a flower!
If you’re placing the flowers on a surface that will
take them, a few white-glass-headed florist’s pins through
the centers will both make an interesting flower center and
hold the parts in place. Otherwise, you can wire or glue the
cups together and add another sort of "stamen" to
                    the center.
