To make a house, create a pattern that has the 4 sides
all linked together (with folds at the corners of the house)
and the bottom attached to one of the 4 sides. To support
the roof, 2 opposing sides will need to have a triangle
shape at the top. Make tabs along the edges as necessary so
you can glue the structure together. Make a rectangular roof
folded in the middle, and glue one side of the roof to tabs
on the triangular part of the "walls" - the other
side of the roof will lift up as a lid to the box.
Line the house with foil (which helps to strengthen it,
too) and use it as a gift cookie container. Or maybe you’ll
like (or your kids will like) to make a whole village full
of them, varying the sizes and drawing or gluing on
differentiating architectural elements!
