This works really well with fine-print newspaper (try the
classifieds, or the stock market reports)... Cut lengthwise
strips 1" wide (lay a few sheets together; you’ll
glue the strips together to make the length of garland you
want - this can be done as you go). Then fold the strip in
half down the middle to make a sturdier1/2" length. Lay
the strip on a table in front of you so that it’s shooting
away from you - and keep your finger on the near end...
Starting about an inch up from the end near you, fold the
strip over itself to the right at a 45 degree angle (i.e.,
so that it now shoots off to your right). Next, fold it
under (making a point facing away from you) at another 45
degree angle - now the strip is coming down towards you.
Fold this over to the right - then fold it under so that the
strip heads away from you again (making a point facing down
toward you). ...And keep on keeping on! - and you have a fun
rickrack garland, with staggered points above and below a
center line.
