Got a large drill bit? Try this simple wood bird
feeder project...
Cut a foot-long segment of a thick (about 3-4" in
diameter) hardwood branch. (If it’s got picturesque bumps
and twigs on it, so much the better. Just make the top cut
at an angle, so water will run off of it easily.) Drill out
two holes at least 1" in diameter, at around one-third
and two-thirds along the branch (i.e., centers of the holes
would be at about the 4" and 8" points). Half an
inch below the holes, drill a1/2" diameter hole
directly underneath each of the larger ones... through which
you’ll insert 6" pieces of doweling or sturdy twigs
(glue them into place). Screw a large eye-bolt into the
center top of the log to hang the feeder from. ...Now just
fill the feeder holes with suet of your choice.
