Of course, it’s likely that any gift will remind the
receiver of you... assuming there was anything to the gift that
could mentally connect it to you. (I sent a friend a baby gift,
though - which I thought reflected me in a way - and there were
so many gifts opened for the new daughter that Christmas that
they got them mixed up!... sigh.) And if the gift is very
special to the receiver, he’ll naturally connect you with it
in his mind when he thinks of it.
But why not think of a way to showcase the remembrance, as it
were? These can be exceptionally memorable gifts...
An elegant candle could be accompanied by a card that says,
"Light this candle and think of me ...thinking of
you". The gift of a tape-recording of you reading a story
to a child is more than suggestive of you. A young toddler
friend’s mother helped her to create hand towels with her
"dirty" handprints on them, saying "wash your
hands" and signed "Gayle". (We use it all the
time, Gayle, even though you’re now an elegant young lady. We
also still have your photo-on-a-juice-can-lid on our fridge!).
My cousin sent me a mug with a picture of both of us on it -
now, who do you suppose I think of when I drink out of it? (I
just wish the picture of me were better!)
Take a look at your presents from another perspective... What
twist might you give them that would add to the value of the
gift by ensuring that it evokes the greatest gift of all...
yourself?
