Do you long for "old fashioned" holidays?
Perhaps you might focus on one interesting aspect of
Christmas (or whatever your tradition is). Reading the
biblical Christmas story is a favorite Christmas Eve element
for many. Visiting wonderfully lighted neighborhoods or parks
caravan-style can be followed by a warming toast at the end of
the evening. Decorating the family tree, or perhaps a
community one, or one for a nursing home, is a fun focal point
for all ages.
One of the most powerful Christmas memories (even if you
never did it yourself!) is the trek into the woods to cut the
perfect Christmas tree. ...If you’re anywhere near such
woods, take the whole crowd along! Then at least begin the
decoration of the party-place tree - or perhaps a communal
tree that you procured too. (Or just the one outside.)
Envelop yourself in the holiday traditions of your family
legacy... A family gathering, especially, is one of the
opportune times to celebrate your heritage. Revel in it!
(And if you don't have a legacy of holiday traditions,
perhaps you'd like to start creating some now... A legacy can
begin at any point in time.)
